Discovering Will Fly
These families and children are the forgotten ones of our society. They live in the shadow of the luxury villas of the neighboring districts, but do not share their privileges. They endure daily poverty, exclusion and even sometimes contempt. They do not have access to the opportunities, services and rights that should be guaranteed to everyone. They have no voice to express their suffering, their anger or their hope. They are invisible and silent.
1. Poverty and Malnutrition
The Problem
“Poverty is not misery.” Misery is what these families and children who live in unhealthy and uncomfortable housing experience. Misery is what prevents them from dreaming, flourishing, marveling. Misery is what deprives them of a healthy and varied diet, a quality education, an enriching culture.
The Solution
Will Fly fights against this misery with heart and mind. We do not just distribute money or material goods. We offer children personalized support, based on listening, respect and trust.
We offer them fun, creative and stimulating activities, which develop their intelligence, curiosity and critical thinking. We teach them to live together, to communicate, to cooperate. We make them discover new horizons, new flavors from elsewhere, new emotions. We give them the desire to learn, to grow, to succeed. Will Fly is a school that teaches life! Will Fly wants to be like a family: who welcomes, supports, encourages.
How to help?
Offer them the opportunity to discover varied and balanced dishes, while teaching them the principles of a healthy and environmentally friendly diet. You can participate in this adventure by offering a meal or a snack among the available options.
THE OPERATIONS SET UP
For this operation, we have chosen to call on specialists in collective catering. They will provide us with fresh and quality products, adapted to the nutritional needs of the children. We want to support the local economy and promote the short circuit. Offer 100 Will Flyers children a balanced meal prepared by the animators, and a day full of surprises and games.
By participating in this operation, you offer two weeks of delicious and balanced snacks to all the children of Will Fly. Thanks to you, they will be able to enjoy themselves and relax after school, while benefiting from an educational and playful accompaniment. You have nothing to do, we take care of everything: shopping, preparation, reception and animation. You will receive photos and thanks from the children you have delighted. Don’t wait any longer, join the operation “1400 snacks” and make children smile! Support all the children of Will Fly by offering them snacks for a week!
For this operation, we have chosen to call on local restaurant chefs, who have agreed to share their know-how and passion with the children. They will offer us varied and original menus, made from fresh and seasonal products. We want to enhance the local gastronomic heritage and raise children’s awareness of culinary diversity. The children will have the opportunity to listen to the explanations of the chefs on the ingredients, techniques and recipes used. Some of them will even be able to participate in the preparation of some dishes, under the supervision of the chefs. Give an unforgettable experience to 100 Will Flyers children: a balanced meal prepared by local chefs, and a day full of fun and educational activities.
2. Idleness and Drugs
The Problem
Drugs, a scourge that ravages the slums. Without work, without leisure, without hope, the inhabitants of the cities are easy prey for traffickers. They sell them dangerous and addictive substances, which destroy them little by little. They drag them into the spiral of violence, dependence and death.
The Solution
By offering children fulfilling, enriching and rewarding activities, Will Fly shows them another way. A way where they can rejoice, learn, relax. A way where they can bond, respect, build. A world where they can taste simple and authentic happiness, far from the illusions and sufferings of drugs. Will Fly wants to be their beacon in the night.
How to help?
To help Will Fly you can apply as a volunteer at Will Fly and ensure the reception of children with our team. Offering activities is not always easy, it takes educated and willing people who are ready to give their time. In addition, if you do not have time to be a volunteer you can also finance the arrival of an animator for a minimum duration of six months.
THE OPERATIONS SET UP
Offer disadvantaged children from Will Fly association a month of care. A local assistant will welcome them and supervise them in fulfilling, enriching and rewarding activities. She will make them discover nature, sport. She will provide them with support for school homework (for the youngest). You can count on her listening and kindness. She will show them how to learn, relax, respect and build.
Imagine the smile and wonder of these children who discover for the first time the treasures of heritage, the wonders of nature or the talents of artists. Imagine their joy and curiosity to participate in fun and educational workshops, to ask questions to passionate guides and to share friendly moments with their classmates. Imagine their pride and self-confidence to live an enriching and rewarding adventure, which opens up new horizons for them and gives them the desire to learn and grow.
By organizing a cultural outing for disadvantaged children in a museum, to see a show or in a natural park with a guide, you offer them much more than a simple distraction. You offer them a unique opportunity to flourish, to cultivate themselves, to have fun, to bond, to respect themselves, to build themselves. You offer them a precious gift: happiness. 3. Abused children (and women)
The Problem
One of the problems we are too often confronted with: Abused children are too often left behind by society. They suffer physical and psychological violence that traumatizes and isolates them. They do not always have the means to protect themselves, to house themselves or to rebuild themselves.

By housing in a real house a family who had to leave a home because the children were not safe there, you offer them not only a refuge, but also moral and psychological support. You offer them the possibility to free themselves from violence, fear and shame. You offer them the opportunity to reconcile with themselves, with their family and with society. You offer them hope for a better future, where they can be happy and fulfilled. House a homeless family in a real house for 1 month.
Save an abused child from abuse and suffering. Offer him/her one year of protection, care and education. Thanks to your generosity, you will allow him/her to benefit from legal assistance, psychological support and personalized academic support. You will offer him/her the chance to rebuild, recover and achieve. You will offer him/her a better future, where he/she can be happy and fulfilled. Contribute to saving children who have suffered physical violence.
4. Problem of access to culture and quality education
The Problem
These children live in poverty, exclusion and above all a lack of education. They do not have enough access to culture or quality educational content. They accumulate academic gaps and difficulties in reasoning.
They are cut off from the world and its cultural and scientific riches, and they do not master enough French or English which is the official language of the country. They speak Mauritian Creole, a local dialect that has no abundant literature or scientific educational resources. They are isolated from other cultures and knowledge. Even though the internet gives access to high-value content, without education, children and teenagers take refuge in very accessible but uneducational content. Opening up to the world’s knowledge increases the propensity to choose instructive content.
The Solution
Will Fly offers them an after-school program and a school of life. It offers them fun and educational activities that stimulate their curiosity, creativity and self-confidence. It teaches them how to read, write, draw, count, think.
It teaches them French and English, so that they can access the cultural and scientific content of the world. It opens the doors of knowledge, culture and citizenship for them. Opening up to the world is meeting: by bringing in local and international animators, it can happen and bear fruit. Will Fly wants to be the link between disadvantaged children and the cultural heritage of the world.
How to help?
Local and international animators work together to offer children quality support, adapted to their needs. They form a solidary, dynamic and creative team. We also need help from people who come from other countries, social backgrounds and cultures to diversify the children’s experiences. Apply to become a volunteer or make a financial donation to support the children.
THE OPERATIONS SET UP
Local animators are people who live in Mauritius and who know well the culture, language and needs of disadvantaged children. They are trained and qualified to lead Will Fly’s activities, such as homework help, cultural outings, fun and educational workshops. They are close to the children, they listen to them, advise them, encourage them and motivate them. They are also role models for the children, who can identify with them and be inspired by their journey. The animators ensure reception and offer educational sessions. Support Will Fly’s action by financing the presence of an animator on site for one year.
International animators are people who come from other countries, social backgrounds and cultures to diversify and enrich the children’s experiences. They are volunteers who share their skills, passions and experiences with the children. They make them discover other languages, traditions, knowledge. They open their minds, raise their awareness of diversity, respect and tolerance. They are also friends for the children, who can exchange, have fun and bond with them. The animators ensure reception and offer educational sessions. Strengthen Will Fly’s impact by financing the presence of an animator on site for one year. You ensure his/her financial stability: his/her accommodation, food and transportation costs. Thanks to you, he/she will be able to create lasting bonds with the children of the slums and accompany them in their development.
Will Fly is currently hosted in the multipurpose room located next to the church of Rivière Noire. This place is too small, too noisy and too uncomfortable for the children. We dream of a place where we would have dedicated equipment, adapted to their needs and desires. A place where they would feel at home, where they could learn, play, eat and rest in the best conditions.
We need your help to make this dream come true. We need your help to build Will Fly’s house. A house that would include:
• A dining room for the children, where they could enjoy healthy and balanced meals, prepared with local and fresh products
• A playroom, where they could have fun with toys, books, board games, and musical instruments.
• A classroom, where they could follow courses adapted to their level, taught by qualified and motivated animators and teachers.
• A bathroom, where they could wash, brush their teeth, comb their hair and change in respect of their privacy.
